Year after year, the Three Rivers Venture Fair (3RVF) is a must-attend for those who are interested in discovering what the future holds for some of the fastest-growing industries and exciting ground-floor investment opportunities.
We had the opportunity to connect with influential investors and industry game-changers and to experience, first-hand, all that makes the 3RVF one of the country's leading investment showcases.
Will Frederick, Gina Kallick and myself staffed the Next Act Fund information table. We spoke with entrepreneurs and other investors. We met other sponsors of the event and shared each other's stories.
I had the privilege of being one of the judges for the University Technology Showcase Luncheon. The panel of judges got to hear from 5 Carnegie Mellon University entrepreneurs and 5 University of Pittsburgh entrepreneurs. We acted as "Shark Tank" interrogators- great fun!
The presenting entrepreneurs were:
- Airborne Laser Sensing
- Hearing for Health
- Heirarchical Machine Learning*
- Nabla Ascent
- Smart Headlight
- Steeltown Retnactor
- The Esophocclude Medical Device
- Thread Rite IV
- Topo Systems
- Tracheo Mag
- WAV Diagnostics*
- Yodel Labs
The top winners were Smart Headlight and Hearing for Health. I was so pleased to have participated as a judge.
Will Frederick handled the Venture Connection Interviews for NAF. It was a round table/speed-dating type of set-up, where every ten minutes new entrepreneurs came to the investor tables to pitch their companies. NAF specifically asked to be connected to women-led/owned companies. Some of these companies will be added to our pipeline for follow up!
Gina Kallick was terrific at engaging with individuals stopping by our table. She and I would "tag team" making sure we were getting the word out about NAF. Gina jotted down a few words about her experience at the conference:
"I attended the 3RVF without much more thought than “working” our NAF table and connecting with entrepreneurs. There was much more! Great opportunities to network and connect with entrepreneurs, investors, university programs and organizations that support entrepreneurs. Additionally, there were educational opportunities and networking possibilities in our community and beyond.
I would encourage everyone to attend." -Gina Kallick, NAF Member
The real value of 3RVF for NAF was that we were with our peers in venture funding, part of the ecosystem. We showed up, we did a good job and we walked away with exposure as a fund, with leads on entreneurs, and with connections to other investors. We are grateful to Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association, and Kelly Szejko, for providing this opportunity and we look forward to next year's event!
